Amy Robach Would 'Rather Not Know' Whether Her Breast Cancer Has Returned | USQK16Q | 2024-03-08 23:08:01
Amy Robach defined why she has been pushing aside checkups after previously battling breast cancer.
Through the Thursday, March 7, episode of the "Amy and T.J." podcast, Robach, 51, admitted that she hasn't gotten her blood work finished as a result of she is afraid of discovering out that her most cancers may need returned.
"I feel anybody who has survived this knows that if you go in for the blood work, it's very emotional. Because tumor markers are what they're on the lookout for," Robach explained to boyfriend T.J. Holmes. "So if the most cancers have been to return back within the places you don't need it to with breast most cancers [such as] bones, liver, lungs, mind, you'd assume that you simply'd get a blood check that may present a tumor marker."
Robach noted that her last blood work took place in August 2022.

"Meaning that you'd be dealing with a terminal but treatable, but finally a terminal most cancers," she continued. "And so I feel the worry of that, you get into this mindset, I don't need to know. I'd somewhat not know."
Regardless of having an appointment in early 2023, Robach determined to not go. "We have been going via our hell and sure, it was the last thing on my thoughts," she stated, referring to her and Holmes' cheating scandal.

Robach elaborated on her fears during a dialog between Holmes and oncologist Dr. Elizabeth Comen, who works at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Middle.
"It's not going to make a distinction anyway," Robach defined of her mindset. "You begin to get in that headspace, and perhaps it's an excuse just not to should go to the physician again or return to the NYU cancer middle once more or just to avoid one thing that's uncomfortable and scary."

Robach was originally recognized with breast cancer after a stay mammogram on Good Morning America. She had a double mastectomy and eight rounds of chemotherapy before her ultimate round of remedy in 2014.
"Have you learnt what's fascinating is I preach this or I have preached this to so many women. What I'm saying right now is identical mentality a whole lot of ladies have about not getting mammograms because they don't need to know," Robach famous. "They don't need to find the mass. They don't need to know if they have cancer because that's scary and meaning it's going to be troublesome."

Robach went on to say that she continues to be overcoming the "ignorance is bliss" mentality, adding, "As illogical as that's, one way or the other [it] becomes this human trait that I'm now experiencing because I've put it off. And as soon as you retain putting it off, you're like, 'Oh, this feels so good to not need to make a telephone call. This feels so good to not should go get a blood check. I really feel normal. I feel like I by no means had cancer and that's what I need to really feel.'"
Earlier within the episode, Holmes, 46, offered his perspective as Robach's associate.
"I've clearly coated breast cancer. I've recognized individuals with breast cancer. I'm now in love with someone who is a breast cancer survivor. However it all the time bothered me and it scares me, proper?" he advised Robach.
