The neighborhood in Dover, Delaware, has seen several unmaintained, undrivable automobiles pile up.

"No one is coming around and towing them," Councilman Brian Lewis informed Maryland-based CBS affiliate WBOC whereas standing subsequent to a broken down Nissan Altima sedan.

"If somebody comes out to take a look at our home to purchase it, they will see all of this behind our neighborhood and say, 'I would like nothing to do with this.'"

Drivers in Oakland, California have also noticed an uptick in abandoned automobiles in some neighborhoods.

Residents are complaining the previous automobiles are blocking businesses, homes, and schools.

The town council prompt almost three,000 abandoned automobiles have been inside the town limits.

Officials stated towing businesses are "overwhelmed" by the number of automobiles that have to be faraway from the streets, in line with ABC affiliate& KGO-TV.

"This lot right here is where they take the deserted automobiles, you see the man towing them," Councilmember Noel Gallo stated while strolling via a public lot throughout an interview with the tv station.

"They're stacked on prime of each other."

The backlog, police stated, is partially because of the number of stolen automobiles in the metropolis.

Oakland suffered greater than 14,000 car thefts in 2023, based on police data.

Deserted and stolen automobiles go to the same city-contracted tow yards – the tons are crammed to the brim, leaving a dire stretch of automobiles lining the streets, residents stated.

Oakland Department of Transit stated it is prioritizing the removing of automobiles which are deemed a public health or security danger.

Other automobiles will take time to move, OakDOT stated.

"OakDOT is at present prioritizing the removing of automobiles which are stolen, hazardous, burned out, and stripped or otherwise considerably blighted," the company wrote on its web site.

"Automobiles that don't fall into a type of classes shall be tagged and towed, but this will take months."
