Alexei Popyrin has played his part ahead a likely third-round US Open showdown with defending champion Novak Djokovic after defying searing heat in New York to outclass Spaniard Pedro Martinez 6-2 6-4 6-0. It comes as three Aussie stars were sent packing from Flushing Meadows. Popyrin, the men's 28th seed, was made to work hard in the heatwave conditions, twice having to fight back from break points down in the second set.
