In Bristol's indoor school on a rainy evening in September, Harry Brook might have been speaking on behalf of the new generation of English 50-over cricketers. He had just batted beautifully for the third ODI innings in a row - 72 off 52 balls, to go with the 110 off 94 he had scored at Chester-le-Street and the 87 off 58 at Lord's. The first two innings had helped England square their series against Australia; the third was unable to prevent defeat.
