Rainn Wilson has an idea for what DC Comics character should get his own movie next, and he's already pitched it to James Gunn.

"I've hinted to James several times, like, 'Hey man, you've got to do something with Plastic Man,'" Wilson said during a panel at Fan Expo Chicago on Aug. 16. "He's one of my favorite DC characters, and I loved him growing up."

Plastic Man comics centered on Patrick "Eel" O'Brian, a former criminal who gets the ability to stretch his body like rubber after a heist-gone-wrong at a chemical plant. Using his newfound powers, he turns his life around and becomes a superhero. The Quality Comics character was created by Jack Cole in 1941, and was acquired by DC Comics in 1966.

Wilson remembered loving Plastic Man as a kid because of its comedy.

"He had a wicked sense of humor," Wilson explained. "The Plastic Man comics were very, very funny. That would be a fun one to unearth."

The Office alum is dying to star as Plastic Man himself, but he said he'd also be happy with seeing a Plastic Movie movie regardless of who plays the hero.

"I would be a fan even if I wasn't in it," the actor said. "I would love to watch that... And play him."

Wilson and Gunn worked together on the 2010 movie Super. Written and directed by Gunn, the dark, comedic film starred Wilson as Frank Darbo a.k.a. the Crimson Bolt, a religious short-order cook who becomes a violent vigilante to save his wife from a drug dealer.

Gunn is now the new co-head of DC Studios (alongside Peter Safran), and recently rebooted the DC universe beginning with Superman, starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel — which Wilson recently saw and loved.

"I thought that the LexCorp or LuthorCorp or whatever in the movie was great, how James created that as a big, monolithic, corporate entity," Wilson said. "That was pretty cool."
