As Love Is Blind fans are gearing up to watch season 9 this fall, one contestant from a previous installment is gearing up for legal action.
Stephen Richardson, a cast member from the seventh season of Netflix's hit reality series, has just sued its producers — alleging the production failed to pay wages and operated under "inhumane working conditions," multiple sources including Variety reported this week.
More specifically, the Love Is Blind alum is proposing a class action suit to include those who were on "but not limited to seasons 6, 7, 8 and 9 of the series," as Deadline noted Tuesday, September 16. Filed in California superior court on Monday, the lawsuit names Netflix and producers Kinetic Content and Delirium TV as defendants.
Similar to the lawsuit filed by fellow contestant Renee Poche, Richardson in his Los Angeles Superior Court-filed complaint says Netflix and producers bound them up in NDAs and then played fast and loose with their reality for the benefit of TV, Deadline also reported. The contestants were wrapped up in a "combination of sleep deprivation, isolation, lack of food, and an excess of alcohol."
"I believe Delirium is trying to silence the abuse that occurs behind the cameras and ruin me for telling the truth," Poche told Variety in January 2024 regarding her own lawsuit. "I felt it was only right to let others know the truth of what all of the castmates had to endure."
Last week, it was revealed that Love Is Blind is taking the pods to the Mile High City for its upcoming ninth season. According to Netflix, "Denver is ranked as one of the best cities for singles to mingle."
Season 9 is set to debut on Oct. 1. Since season 2 in 2022, the streamer has released two seasons of Love Is Blind per year.
