**This article contains spoilers for *Bugonia*.**

*Bugonia* features one of the most bloody, wild, go-for-broke endings in recent memory, so it's only fitting that it's eliciting vastly different reactions from audiences — and no one welcomes this more than director Yorgos Lanthimos.

The film follows a conspiracy theorist named Teddy (Jesse Plemons), who kidnaps and tortures powerful CEO Michelle Fuller (Emma Stone), convinced she is an alien sent to destroy humankind. As bizarre as his beliefs sound at first, by the end of the film, after days chained up in his basement, Michelle concedes that she is an alien empress from the Andromeda Galaxy.

She confirms many of his outlandish theories (like that her hair is a secret communication device), but she insists he was wrong about her people's intentions. Far from wanting to destroy humanity, she says her Adromedan ancestors actually created humans, and they've been trying to save us from ourselves ever since.

While Teddy believes her, it remains unclear until the film's final moments whether she is telling the truth or bluffing in a last-ditch effort to escape her tormentor.

"The thing that I grew to appreciate more and more was the fact that throughout the film, Teddy says some things that, from an objective standpoint, you can look at and think that's true, and then he'll follow that up with something that is objectively bananas and insane," Plemons tells * *alongside his costar.* *

"And the same thing goes for Michelle," he adds. "It felt very, very close to the very myopic ways in which a lot of us can go through life, where there is very little room for multiple ways of thinking or for multiple things to be true at once. We get this tunnel vision."**

Thrilled that Michelle is finally coming clean, Teddy asks to be taken to her mothership. So, Michelle leads him to her office at her pharmaceutical company and punches some numbers on a seemingly innocuous calculator, which she tells him is really a teleportation device. After typing in the code, she tells Teddy to stand in her closet, where she insists he will be beamed up to her ship.

But when he closes the closet door, the homemade bomb he'd strapped to his chest explodes, which sends his decapitated head hurtling into Michelle, knocking her unconscious. When she awakes in an ambulance on the way to the hospital, she jumps out the back door and runs back to her office. Back inside, she goes into the closet (still filled with bits of Teddy) and is beamed aboard her ship, proving that she is, indeed, an alien.**

At a council meeting aboard the mothership, she and her fellow Andromedans decide once and for all that the human experiment has failed. With tears in her eyes, she goes to a model of Earth and pops a bubble around it, wiping out all human life on the planet.

As the film ends, a montage of collapsed bodies around the world is shown, while other species, notably bees (whose impending extinction was a preoccupation of Teddy's), appear to be flourishing.

While the eradication of our species might sound like a bleak ending note, Lanthimos tells EW that* *audiences are divided on whether the film presents a hopeful or pessimistic view of the future.

"I've noticed that some people say, 'Oh, it's really dark and bleak, the ending,' and then some other people find it very hopeful, because in a sense you don't take it literally," the director says. "It's a film, and nature survives, and it kind of allows the hope of a second chance at everything restarting."

He continues, "So some people see it this way instead of *it all ended*. So I think it says things about the viewer themselves, how they feel in the end. And I think sometimes it might change. If it sticks in their head, maybe they think about it [later] and go like, 'Yeah, maybe it is hopeful. It's not that bleak, actually.'"

As the director intended, the film is filled with moments that audiences are sure to interpret differently. Teddy's death, for example, is never fully explained. While police guess that friction or his body heat triggered the homemade bomb, could Michelle have used her alien teleporter to set it somehow off?**

"Yeah, I mean, I always assumed it was Teddy, really. There was a friction situation, and he got stuck, and that thing was a homemade [bomb]," Stone tells EW before taking a moment to praise the film's prosthetic designers.

"I'm going to be honest with you. I think [Teddy's decapitated] head was one of the most incredible pieces of prosthetic work I've ever seen," she says to Plemons, who sits alongside her for the interview. "I'm being really serious. It was unbelievable. But stepping into that closet was *really* disgusting."

"But," her costar adds with a mischievous glint in his eye, "I like the [kill switch] beaming thing. That's the *one* thing he didn't think about."

*Bugonia* is now playing in theaters.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Jerami Grant made a pair of free throws with 1.4 seconds left and the Portland Trail Blazers rallied for a 109-107 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Friday night in the NBA Cup opener for both teams.

Denver led 81-71 going into the fourth quarter. With 27.7 seconds left and the Nuggets in front 107-105, Grant hit a pair of free throws for the Blazers to tie it.

After a scramble on the other end, Shaedon Sharpe blocked Aaron Gordon's jumper and the Nuggets were called for a shot clock violation, giving Portland the ball with three seconds left.

A foul was called on Gordon and Grant made the free throws. Nikola Jokic missed a 13-foot jumper as the clock ran out.

Jokic had 21 points and 14 rebounds but fell just short of his fifth straight triple double to open the season with nine assists. Jokic went into the game tied with Oscar Robertson (1961-62) and Russell Westbrook (2020-21) for most consecutive triple-doubles to start the season with four.

Grant had 16 points off the bench for the Blazers, who won their third straight. Deni Avdija led Portland with 23 and Sharpe had 19.

Jamal Murray added 22 points for the Nuggets. The loss snapped Denver's three- game winning streak.

Murray was questionable with left calf soreness but started and the Nuggets went up 30-18 on his layup. Avdija's layup tied it for Portland at 41 but the Nuggets went into halftime with a 57-53 lead.

The Blazers briefly pulled in front 68-67 on Kris Murray's layup before Denver's 9-0 run to end the third quarter for a 10-point lead.

There was a lengthy delay at the end of the first quarter because of a shot clock malfunction at the Moda Center.

Put those sad horns away and sound the harps of *angles* above, because the holy golden chocolate has gone to *the* demon queen of* RuPaul's Drag Race* season 14.

"I'm feeling good, I'm feeling very lucky and happy that I get to continue on doing my bulls--- and showing my ass," Bosco exclusively tells *EW's BINGE* podcast (below) of unwrapping the elusive, gilded piece of candy that allowed her a free pass to return to the *Drag Race* competition after her elimination at the end of Friday night's episode, promising that she'll continue to serve "new-and-improved versions of naked" now that she has a new lease on life in the Werk Room.

"After the lip-sync [against Jorgeous in the bottom-two], I was pretty defeated, like, well, this is where the journey ends. I was ready for them to play those sad trombone horns that we hear every single week," Bosco continues. "They do a really nice job of editing out how hard it is to open those chocolate bars. There's usually about a minute of us struggling with the wrapping, and that's always really funny to watch. I struggled with the wrapping a little bit and saw this piece of gold sticking out, and I was like, there's no way. It was the full gold bar. I started scream-laughing, I think I blacked out, full astral projection, scream-laughing. I remember screaming, 'This season is never going to f---ing end!'"

By making epic, explosive television elsewhere throughout the episode — which saw the queens performing in the *Moulin Ru!* stage production as part of the fan-favorite Rusical song-and-dance challenge — Bosco certainly earned her right to return so quickly after her elimination. At the top of the installment, she clashed with fellow contestant Lady Camden over their shared desire to play the lead role of Saltine, which ended in a group vote that deemed Bosco as the rightful recipient.

RuPaul's Drag Race

Bosco opens the golden chocolate bar on 'RuPaul's Drag Race' season 14. World of Wonder/VH1

Still, Bosco explains, the gals were "vibing within an hour or so" of the argument over the part.

"I was very aware that I was the one in the wrong and being the pettier person, I was like, I'll wait until she's good to talk. By the time we started rehearsals, we were Gucci, we were fine," she remembers. Later, on the runway, Bosco endured a few more verbal lashings from her season 14 sisters — particularly Jorgeous, who quipped about Bosco's tripple-bottom placement in the prior week's lip-sync knockout rounds after Mama Ru asked the remaining queens to tell her who they thought should be eliminated and why.

"That was so funny. It was such a good clap-back," Bosco admits. "Jorgeous was really heated with me in that moment, because I was mean to Lady Camden. Valid. She was mad at me because I [told RuPaul I'd pick] her. She was mad and had a really funny one-liner and comeback to it. Work. She won the one-liner-off there. I'm happy for her flowers there. She beat me in the lip-sync before it even started," Bosco says. "I am a strong believer that drag queens by nature are assholes. While I'm a kind person, I am absolutely an asshole. I don't feel any shame in being a little brat 12 weeks into this competition. I'm usually on my best behavior. I really wanted that thing, so I fought for it."

Daya Betty's roast of Ross Mathews might've landed with lukewarm reception from the *RuPaul's Drag Race* judges, but that doesn't mean she didn't at least *try* to turn up the heat with her originally planned set of jokes.

Appearing on the latest episode of EW's BINGE podcast, Daya reveals that she cut a few jokes from her routine during the comedy challenge, but promises that some of them remain too controversial to tell.

"I had a whole list of 'Ross Mathews is so gay' jokes. One I had that didn't make the cut was: Ross Mathews is so gay, his favorite moisturizer was Astroglide," Daya recalls, adding with a laugh that others didn't make it past the initial screening process for far more hilarious reasons. "The people in the room that were ok'ing [the jokes] were like, 'Nope, you can't stay that!' I'm not even going to say it here because it's probably way too inappropriate. There was plenty [of] crazier, more inappropriate jokes. I'll just say it was severely inappropriate and there was a reason it was not aired."

She says the challenge also wrapped with an impromptu set from Michelle Visage, which she says the queens thoroughly enjoyed. But, for most of them — including eliminated queen DeJa Skye, who left alongside Jorgeous after they lost a three-way lip-sync against Daya — the roast actually began in the Werk Room as the queens workshopped their material among the sisterhood.

"We kind of used each other as practice dummies. Especially DeJa. DeJa was the best at it. She'd sit down in her little corner and she'd yell out a joke randomly, and we'd all be like, thumbs up, thumbs down, and, let's be honest, they were pretty much all thumbs down," Daya remembers. "You saw the episode, I had some thumbs down myself. It turned into a collaborative effort. I personally was working on my jokes even after makeup. I was still finessing jokes."

*RuPaul's Drag Race* Zoom reunions that could, without question, also pass for the *Mortal Kombat* character selection screen? No more! Angeria Paris VanMicheals joins *EW's BINGE* podcast to dish on the season 14 closer, including the show's first live reunion in three years that the finalist promises will be a dramatic moment where brewing tension comes to a head.

"What you can expect is a lot of unresolved situations between people coming to a head, finally," Angeria explains of the upcoming reunion, set to air Friday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on VH1. "The reunion of course is a moment where everybody gets to address those things they might've known had been said or might've not known. We've all been watching confessionals, so this is the moment for everything to be laid out on the table."

Without naming names, Angeria remembers feeling that things were "left unresolved" between certain cast members when they were eliminated from the competition, and stresses that the reunion "is the moment to come back and say, okay, let's resolve this."

She also says the fact that this is the first live reunion in years adds to the excitement factor: "This isn't a Zoom reunion, girl. No shade to the other seasons. They did what they had to do," she continues. "But we're back, live, sitting with each other and Ru, so it's going to be a lot of fun."

Angeria also teases something else might soon turn red-hot in the future: Her friendship with fellow season 14 finalist Lady Camden. After the adorable duo admitted there might be a mutual crush brewing in the Werk Room when they first laid eyes on each other during the premiere, Camden later promised to take her new friend to San Francisco's BDSM-centric Folsom Street Fair after Angeria's hilariously innocent reaction to finding out that it wasn't just, uh, a street carnival.

"I cannot confirm that this is a Brooke and Vanjie moment. Now, if we are *working* on a Brooke and Vanjie moment, that might be more of something. But, while the show is still going on, I know that myself and Lady for sure are trying to focus on everything when both of us have very busy schedules. Even if that was a thing, I don't think either one of us are able to handle anything that could blossom seriously," she says. "I think I can proudly say that both of us would be open to future possibilities when [we] have a little more of a handle on things. Right now, things are entirely too busy to be thinking about any kind of thing, so until then, she's going to take me to Folsom."

Earlier in the episode, Angeria's fellow RuGirl and friend (as well as former pageant competitor) Silky Nutmeg Ganache joined EW's *Quick Drag* Twitter Spaces to spill her thoughts on the upcoming season 14 finale, recounting how she felt heading into the season 11 finale back in 2019.

"I know each girl is heading into the finale with a different goal. For me, when I went into season 11, to the finale, I knew that I was not going to win season 11. I felt in my heart of hearts.... I didn't think I had a chance at all. My goal going into it was to look as beautiful as possible, and to lose with my grace and my dignity," Silky says, adding that she felt the fandom and perception from the show painted her in an unflattering light. "This season, with them having a top five, I can't even imagine what these girls are going in with. Is it going to be another lip-sync smackdown where they're lip-syncing against each other and it's dwindling? With a bigger cast, it's more stressful for them. If they have self-doubt on top of this stress, I think it's going to show. I hope that no girl feels that way or feel what I felt going into the finale."

Silky previously opened up to EW about the mistreatment she received in the industry (including losing paid gigs) after her time on season 11, which featured sustained depictions of her arguments with other queens — particularly Yvie Oddly, which she says didn't reflect the true reality of the situation.

"I will feel validated when I start to get the roles on television shows or I get my own reality show just like those judges said that I needed," she told EW after her show-stopping domination of the *All Stars 6* lip-sync smackdown, which saw her slay five consecutive lip-sync performances in one episode. "I'm grateful that the fans are doing what they're doing now, but I went back on *All Stars* to excel in my career. Now is the time where I'm hoping that all the people that said, 'We need to see you more,' actually put in the action and aren't afraid to back me up because of the feedback they think they'd get."

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Illinois lawmakers have sent Gov. JB Pritzker legislation prohibiting federal authorities from making immigration arrests near courthouses, but even one of the measure's top sponsors questions whether it can survive a court challenge.

The proposal adopted early Friday also allows lawsuits when people believe their constitutional rights have been violated during civil immigration arrests.

The legislation imposes civil damages for false imprisonment when someone attending a court hearing or appearing as a party or witness to a legal proceeding is arrested. Proponents say courts must be accessible to everyone to pursue remedies to violations of their rights.

Democratic Senate President Don Harmon, a lead sponsor, acknowledged the measure will face a court challenge.

"It's not just about the constitutionality of the law, which I think is sound, but it's the reality that the courts are stacked against us," Harmon said. "The federal government can try to remove it from state courts to federal courts. They can try to substitute the government itself for the individual defendants, but that's not a reason not to try."

Pritzker, a Democrat, supports the idea and will review the plan when it reaches his desk, spokesperson Matt Hill said.

Two weeks ago, the top judge in Cook County, home to Chicago, issued an order with the same prohibition. It's unclear whether the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has followed the dictum, but at the time, federal officials dismissed it, saying "there are no legal sanctuaries where you can hide and avoid the consequences for breaking the law."

The Trump administration's immigration enforcement, which began two months ago in Chicago and its suburbs, is intended to round up migrants living in the country illegally, particularly those with criminal records. But witnesses have reported repeated incidents in which Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers detain people regardless of citizenship or legal status.

"No one should have to choose between seeking justice and risking their freedom," said co-sponsoring Sen. Celina Villanueva. "Courthouses must be places where people can resolve disputes, testify and support loved ones, not sites of fear or intimidation."

The legislation, approved largely along party lines, also requires hospitals, day care centers and higher education institutions to create policies delineating how they would handle immigration agents inside their facilities.

Other states have taken similar action or otherwise adopted practices to protect immigrants. California has limited immigration enforcement action in courthouses since 2017. Guidance published by California Attorney General Rob Bonta says the state can't control federal immigration action, but "the state has a responsibility to provide safe and secure access to court facilities to all residents regardless of immigration status."

In September, Connecticut Supreme Court Chief Justice Raheem Mullins issued a policy prohibiting warrantless arrests inside state courts, as well as banning the use in judicial buildings of face coverings, routinely worn by ICE officers.

"Judges, staff, litigants, members of the public, they all must be able to conduct their business in our courthouses without fear of disruption," Mullins said.

(Reuters) -Ford Motor is recalling 79,781 vehicles in the U.S. that are at risk of having interior panels near the front doors that could detach and rear lights that may stop working, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Friday.

The recall includes 14,843 F-150 Lightning BEV pickup trucks for the rear lightbar problem and 64,938 Ford Flex vehicles for the door panel defect.

Separately, Ford is also recalling nearly 34,481 units of re-manufactured 10R80 automatic transmissions that were used as service repair parts for some Ford and Lincoln vehicles, the NHTSA added.

The automaker had recalled 227,006 vehicles on Thursday for issues including air bubbles in windshield glass and loose seat frames, and 175,000 vehicles on Wednesday for moonroof wind deflectors that could detach from Expedition and Navigator SUVs and F-series pickups, bringing the total number of recalls this week close to half a million.

At least 11 people have been sickened, including three who were hospitalized, with salmonella infections linked to powder supplements sold at Sam's Club stores nationwide and online, federal health officials said Friday.

Member's Mark Super Greens Powder Supplements have been pulled from store shelves because they contain moringa leaf powder that may be contaminated with salmonella bacteria, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

Infections were confirmed in seven states: Florida, Kansas, Michigan, North Carolina, New York, South Carolina and Virginia. Illnesses were reported between May and September.

The source of the salmonella was traced to a single lot of organic moringa leaf powder imported from Vallon Farm Direct in Jodhpur, India, according to an investigation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. State health officials in Virginia and Michigan collected and tested samples of the product from the homes of people who fell ill.

Moringa is a plant native to India and other countries prized for essential nutrients including protein, amino acids, vitamins and minerals, according to research published by the National Institutes of Health. Its leaves can be dried and powdered.

Consumers should not eat the supplements and should throw them away or return them to the store for a refund.

Symptoms of salmonella poisoning include diarrhea, fever, severe vomiting, dehydration and stomach cramps. Most people who get sick recover within a week. Infections can be severe in young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems, who may require hospitalization.

GEORGETOWN, Guyana (AP) — Authorities in Guyana arrested the South American country's incoming opposition leader on Friday following an extradition request from the U.S. government.

Azruddin Mohamed, one of Guyana's wealthiest citizens, was recently indicted by a federal grand jury in Florida on charges including money laundering, bribery, tax evasion and wire and mail fraud.

Mohamed is the leader of the We Invest in Nationhood party, which won 16 of the 65 parliamentary seats in the Sept. 1 general election.

He appeared in court Friday and was later released on $750 bond and ordered to return to court in early November for a second extradition hearing.

Also arrested and released on bond was his father, Nazar Mohamed, who faces the same accusations.

Attorney General Anil Nandlall said authorities were acting on a formal request from the U.S. for their extradition.

One of the Mohameds' attorneys, Siand Dhurjon, said some of the offenses "are not extraditable offenses under the laws of our land or even the extradition treaty" that Guyana has.

Last year, the U.S. Treasury Department sanctioned Azruddin Mohamed, his father and his family business for allegedly smuggling more than 22,000 pounds (10,000 kilograms) of gold to the U.S. from Guyana, and evading more than $50 million in taxes.

Azruddin Mohamed was expected to be elected by incoming opposition lawmakers as their leader on Monday when Parliament reconvenes for its first sitting.

The case has underscored persistent government corruption in the oil-rich South American nation.
