Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno to take leave of absence as daughter undergoes heart-disease surgery
Chicago Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno is taking some time away from hockey to be with his daughter. Foligno will take a leave of absence from the club while his daughter undergoes a surgery related to her congenital heart disease, the team announced Wednesday.
The team did not announce how long Foligno would be away. It added that both the Blackhawks and Foligno would have no further comment on the situation.

Foligno's daughter, Milana, was diagnosed with congenital heart disease shortly after she was born in 2013. Foligno had just joined the Columbus Blue Jackets when he found out the news. He left the team shortly after arriving to head back home to be with his then-infant daughter.
Milana underwent a rare surgery as an infant, which was successful. She's had revisions on that surgery multiple times in her life, per Heart & Stroke.
After spending nine seasons with the Blue Jackets, Foligno also saw time with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins before joining the Blackhawks ahead of the 2023-24 season.
In four games this season, Foligno has two assists. The Blackhawks are 1-2-1 to open the season.
