A fox that became dangerously entangled in netting just before New Year's Day has been successfully rescued and released, marking a milestone moment for a Virginia wildlife rehabilitation center.
Loudoun County Animal Services officers HLEO Henry and Deputy Chief Smokoska responded to the emergency call after a community member spotted the distressed fox. The animal had dragged the net into a fence line, causing it to wrap tightly around his body and neck.
While officers were able to carefully free the fox's legs at the scene, the netting around his neck required professional intervention. The fox was transported to Blue Ridge Wildlife Center with assistance from Kristi's Caring Hands Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education.
At the wildlife center, veterinarians sedated the fox and successfully removed the remaining netting. Remarkably, the animal became the facility's 4,000th patient of 2025 — and showed no other medical concerns.
"We're thrilled to share that he had no other medical concerns and was released back just a few hours later," animal services officials said.
