Kiefer Sutherland arrested, posts $50K bail for alleged assault and threats against rideshare driver

Kiefer Sutherlandwas arrested in Los Angeles on Monday after an alleged altercation with a ride-share driver.

A representative from the Los Angeles Police Department detailed in a statement toEntertainment Weeklythat officers responded to a radio call regarding an assault involving a rideshare driver on Jan. 12 around 12:15 a.m. When they arrived near the intersection of Sunset Blvd. and Fairfax Ave. in the West Hollywood neighborhood, officers took Sutherland into custody on suspicion of making criminal threats.

"The investigation determined that the suspect, later identified as Kiefer Sutherland, entered a rideshare vehicle, physically assaulted the driver (the victim), and made criminal threats toward the victim," LAPD's statement reads.

The department noted that the alleged victim did not sustain any injuries requiring immediate medical treatment. Detectives from the Hollywood Division are currently investigating the incident.

Sutherland was booked into jail on a $50,000 bond, which he has since posted and gained release. His next appearance is scheduled at Los Angeles Superior Court on Feb. 2, according to arrest records.

Representatives for Sutherland did not immediately respond to EW's request for comment.

Sutherland is best known as Jack Bauer, the crime-fighting protagonist of the Fox action series24. The son of actors Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas starred on all eight seasons of24, as well as the TV movie24: Redemption, and the limited series24: Live Another Day. He won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for the role.

In 2007, Sutherland wasarrested on drunk driving chargesand hit with his fourth DUI in 18 years. The actor pleaded no contest, but since he was still on probation for a 2004 DUI, he was sentenced to mandatory jail time. He served 48 days before being released.

Sutherland was arrested again two years later for head-butting Proenza Schouler founder Jack McCollough at the Mercer Hotel in Manhattan. He waschargedwith third-degree assault, but charges were ultimately dropped after Sutherland and McCollough issued ajoint statementin which he apologized.

"I am sorry about what happened that night and sincerely regret that Mr. McCollough was injured," Sutherland said in the brief statement.
