Riyad Mahrez was one of several Algerian football stars to congratulate Imane Khelif after she defeated China's Yang Liu to win Olympic gold in Paris on Friday. After entering the tournament as the fifth seed in the women's welterweight division amid a storm of controversy surrounding her gender, Khelif had been utterly dominant en route to securing her place in the Olympic final. Against reigning world champion Liu at the Roland Garros Khelif continued her streak, utilising her reach and fighting well on the outside to consistently land punches at distance.
