England's much-anticipated autumn campaign began with an excruciating defeat as Steve Borthwick's side were beaten by New Zealand 24-22 in the first of their four November fixtures. In an error-strewn, yet astonishing game which ended in a thrilling finale, George Ford struck the post with what would have been a match-winning penalty and also missed with a last-gasp drop goal attempt. It meant that despite Immanuel Feyi-Waboso's try and the boot of Marcus Smith, England fell just short.
