Just over a century ago an American baseball legend was caught up in the throwing of a baseball World Series. Along with seven of his Chicago White Sox team-mates Shoeless Joe Jackson was deemed to have sold the 1919 world championship to the Cincinnati Reds. In the eyes of millions of his fellow countrymen that should have been a capital offence. Shoeless Joe was given a suspension which effectively ended his home run-laden career.
