Family matters. Fitness matters. For Hayden Hawks, winner of the 100km CCC (Courmayeur to Chamonix) at the UTMB Mont Blanc festival this summer, travelling around the world to run combines both. The Utah-born 33-year-old has always had a passion for the outdoors, as with most trail runners, but his path to the sport was far from straightforward. Initially a basketball and baseball player — his dream was to play for the Boston Red Sox — Hawks earned a scholarship to Southern Utah University in cross country and track and field distances.
