About Our Ads Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Mississippi State football started so promising in the 2026 college football season, but star quarterback Kamario Taylor 's campaign has been derailed by injury.
The 19-year-old signal caller started off as one of the biggest Heisman Trophy contender this season. However, his toe injury has been deemed worse than expected and that doesn't bode well for the Bulldogs.
ESPN insider Pete Thamel reveals that the Mississippi State star will miss the remainder of the 2026 season. Meanwhile, Taylor is facing surgery after meeting with a specialist on Tuesday.
Taylor's been a different player over the last month since sustaining the setback against Missouri on September 26. The signal caller has managed to still play in several games, including his team's loss to Oklahoma on October 24.

Thamel's report also indicates that Taylor wanted to continue playing through his injury, but it became too unbearable.
"Sources said that Taylor pushed hard to play after the injury. It became clear that time and rest weren't going to get to him to a point where he could be effective," Thamel wrote on X .
Taylor became one of the most exciting players in college football when bursting onto the scene for the Bulldogs. Now, there's a major question about his future with the school considering how the NIL era is transpiring.
This season, the sophomore posted over 1,400 yards passing and 17 touchdowns while only throwing four interceptions. Taylor isn't eligible to declare for the 2027 NFL Draft, which means college teams are going to be heavily pursuing the star.
Mississippi State will certainly have its chance to pitch their QB1 on why he should remain with the SEC program. However, the reality is there will be a host of other elite programs that need their own star quarterback.

Parker Puckett seems to be in line to move into Taylor's starting role with the Bulldogs. Puckett proved to be a dual-threat weapon in Mississippi State's Week 8 loss against the Sooners.
