Kelly Ripa & Mark Consuelos Welcome Home New Puppy After Health Issue

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos‘s family is officially complete.

The Live With Kelly and Mark hosts welcomed their new puppy home after a health issue delayed the adoption process. “Welcome Home Javi,” the New Jersey nonprofit Pet ResQ Inc. captioned a Tuesday, October 20, Instagram Story video of the couple holding their new puppy outside their home.

Ripa reposted the clip via her own Instagram Story, and followed up the post with a sweet snap of Consuelos holding their newest family member. She captioned the pic, “@instasuelos [hearts] Javi.”

Ripa also shared a photo of the pair’s older pup, Lena, reuniting with her new little brother. “When Javi met Lena part 2,” she wrote over the adorable pic. Ripa’s posts confirmed that puppy’s name, as she and Consuelos previously debated between his original name, Lucas, and Javi, short for Javier.

On Tuesday, Pet ResQ Inc. shared an Instagram video documenting Javi’s journey home. “Special delivery,” the group captioned clips of Javi’s car ride into New York City before being welcomed by Ripa and Consuelos.

Ripa and Consuelos met Javi the same day as fans when the puppy appeared on the October 12 episode of Live. “Mark walked into my dressing room this morning with Lucas in his arms, and I saw a different you. I saw a kinder, gentler you,” Ripa told her husband, who held Javi in his arms during the beginning of the show.

The pair continued to gush over the pup as they went through their opening conversation topics. “I was thinking Javi would be a good name for him, Javier,” Consuelos said, to which Ripa replied, “This is trouble. He’s naming this dog that we have not adopted.”

The duo brought Lena to the show’s set to meet Javi after Monday’s episode. The next day, they confirmed they’d officially started the adoption process for Javi. “We have a new baby. Not living in the house yet. We’ve got to wait for a couple of medicals, a couple of tests, but we are like expectant parents,” Ripa gushed. “I started nesting last night. I couldn’t sleep. I started making a nest.”

In a Sunday, October 18, interview with People, the couple revealed that Javi’s adoption was delayed. “We don’t have him yet because he had a little bit of [a] health issue,” Ripa explained, while Consuelos shared that Javi was diagnosed with a “parasite.”

He added, “They’re treating it and then he’s going to come. Any day now.”
