TAMPA Bay Lighting defenseman Mikhail Sergachev needed to be placed on a stretcher after a brutal collision versus the New York Rangers.
NHL fans have been surprised after seeing Sergechev's damage involving Rangers forward Alexei Lafreniere on Wednesday night time.
The play occurred close to the fitting boards within the second period when Sergechev tried to hit Lafreniere from behind.
Nevertheless, Sergachev's left leg seemed to be bent backwards in the process.
Sergachev was down on the ice after the play and Lightning's medical workforce rushed to assist the 25-year-old.
Play was halted for quite a few minutes as Sergachev was ultimately placed on a stretcher while each groups have been on the ice.
Lighting head coach Jon Cooper even left the bench to examine on the eight-year veteran.
Sergechev was carted off the ice and seemed to be in tears, holding a towel over his head before waving his hand to the cheering crowd.
Lafrenier was additionally spotted visibly shaken by the scene.
NHL followers, in the meantime, have been startled by the video of the ugly damage on X, formerly Twitter.
One commented, "Absolutely terrible."
Another wrote, "Painful to observe."
While a 3rd stated, "This is nasty. Hope for a speedy restoration."
The Lighting have yet to announce an update on Sergachev.
It was Sergachev's first recreation back since December 19 because of a lower-body damage.
He has 19 factors in 33 video games this season.
Selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the first spherical of the 2016 NHL Draft, Sergachev was traded to the Lightning within the 2018.
The Russian would win two Stanley Cups (2020, 2021).
In 2022, Sergachev signed an eight-year, $60 million contract extension with the Lightning.
